National Statistics Status of Sea Passenger Statistics

Updated 11 December 2019

National statistics status means that our statistics meet the highest standards of trustworthiness, quality and public value, and it is our responsibility to maintain compliance with these standards.

The designation of the sea passenger statistics as National Statistics was confirmed in February 2013 following a full assessment against the Code of Practice for Statistics by the Office for Statistics Regulation.

Changes to these statistics

Since the latest review by the Office for Statistics Regulation, we have continued to comply with the Code of Practice and have:

  • carried out a review of the statistics, publishing a summary of the feedback from users
  • streamlined the published data tables, reducing the number of tables to aid clarity without removing information required by users
  • published a more comprehensive background Quality Report alongside the notes and definitions document, to provide more detailed information about the main strengths and limitations, and how we engage with users
