The local error management system coordinator (LEMSCo) course will no longer be delivered at CoAST or elsewhere from 16 Oct 2018. The STEP Stakeholder working group are working with Baines Simmons to develop the Effective Error Management (EEM) Course that will fill this training need early 2019. If you have any queries regarding this, please contact your STEP POC.

The below text has been retained for context and advice.

Course aim

This course aims to provide delegates with:

  • a fuller understanding of the role of the local error management system coordinator (LEMSCo) and its centrality to effective error and safety management systems.
  • an insight into the role of the station error management system coordinator (SEMSCo) and their daily interactions with the LEMSCo.
  • a basic understanding of the role of the occurrence investigation and occurrence review rroup processes.

On completion of the course, individuals will be able to:

  • confidently carry out the duties of a LEMSCo within their organisation.
  • correctly complete staff hard-copy ‘in-form’ and legacy DAEMS report forms.
  • identify weaknesses in their own organisation’s Error Management System and know when, how and from whom, to request bespoke follow-on support / training / consultation.

Applicability

This training is specifically targeted at individuals fulfilling the local error management system coordinator (LEMSCo) role, or a post with similar responsibilities.

The course is a modification of the existing Effective Error Management (EEM) training and it will award the EEM JPA competence. Individuals who attend the LEMSCo course should not attend the EEM.

Prerequisites

Before individuals attend the course, they must have completed Human Factors and Error Management foundation level training. As the LEMSCo training is fast paced and practical in nature, individuals may be asked to leave the course if they do not have this foundation level knowledge. An error management refresh awareness pack (EMRAP) is available for delegates as pre-reading to refresh their foundation knowledge.

Duration

1 day.

Location

Centre of Air Safety Training, Defence Academy of the UK, Shrivenham.
