This letter explains the changes we made to the General Conditions of Recognition on 8 June 2016.

General Condition D9 This Condition currently only applies to legacy GCSEs, AS and A levels. It allows us to enforce any transitional rules we have set when ending a qualification’s accreditation. Changes to reflect the move to a single regulator in Northern Ireland. We have made the following three changes to the General Conditions to reflect the move to a single regulator in Northern Ireland.

Changes to reflect the move to a single regulator in Northern Ireland We have made the following 3 changes to the General Conditions to reflect the move to a single regulator in Northern Ireland:

  1. Removed references to the language of assessments in Northern Ireland in Condition G2 – as in all other territories outside England, our rules now place no restrictions on the language of assessments in Northern Ireland.

  2. Removed the associated requirement to report the language of assessment on certificates where assessments in Northern Ireland were not delivered in English or Irish (Condition I3.4).

  3. Removed the definition of ‘Characteristic’ used in Northern Ireland (Condition J1.8).
