Annual Statistical Work Programme
Updated 19 May 2026
This publication sets out the Insolvency Service’s statistical work programme. We are a government agency, sponsored by the Department for Business and Trade, that helps to deliver economic confidence by supporting those in financial distress, tackling financial wrongdoing and maximising returns to creditors.
1. Statistics at The Insolvency Service
The Insolvency Service publishes all official statistics in line with the principles outlined in the UK Statistics Authority’s Code of Practice for Statistics (also see our policies & procedures page).
We maintain a full list of upcoming official statistics, and their proposed publication dates, available on the Insolvency Service’s Official Statistics Publication Schedule.
The Agency releases Statistics in the following areas:
-
Individual Insolvency Statistics Releases including:
-
Individual Insolvency Statistics published two or three weeks after the end of each month.
-
Individual Insolvencies by Location, Age and Gender statistics published annually in March or April.
-
Individual Voluntary Arrangement Outcomes and Providers statistics published annually in February or March.
-
-
Our Company Insolvency Statistics are published two or three weeks after the end of each month.
-
The Insolvency Service Enforcement Outcomes official statistics were discontinued following the release of monthly tables on 11 August 2023. To continue to meet user needs following the discontinuation of the Enforcement Outcomes official statistics, management information tables covering key statistics on Insolvency Service enforcement outcomes are published monthly.
-
We publish user-requested datasets either on our User Requested Statistics and Datasets page or on the Insolvency Service’s FOI responses page.
Details of policies and procedures relating to the production of Insolvency Service statistics, such as our revisions policy and seasonal adjustment methodology, can be found in our Policy and Procedure documents.

2. Planned changes in 2026/27
Publish Corporate Insolvencies by Size, Industry, Age and Location
In June 2026, we intend to release Official statistics in development for the numbers and rates of corporate insolvencies in the United Kingdom from 2015 to 2025, broken down by region, industry, age, number of employees, and turnover. These statistics are created by linking to the Office for National Statistics’ Inter-Departmental Business Register which contains information on business demographics.
This is an update to the previous ad-hoc publication Corporate insolvencies by size, age and location, 2015 to 2017 - GOV.UK and it is our aim for this new publication to be released annually.
The reintroduction of trader bankruptcies and SIC code statistics
Our monthly Individual Insolvency Statistics have previously included numbers of bankruptcies by employment status, as well as the associated Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code for self-employed bankrupts. However, for cases since October 2025, when the Insolvency Service moved to a new case management system, this information is not available for the majority of cases. Updated numbers for tables 4a, 4b and 4c have therefore not been provided since October 2025.
We will work with operational and data engineering colleagues with the aim of resuming the accurate and timely collection of this information. We will update users on the progress of this no later than July 2026.
Data prior to October 2025 used SIC 2003 codes translated using a best-match procedure to SIC 2007 codes. Any data provided from November 2025 onwards will directly use SIC 2007 codes with no need for translation. There will therefore be a discontinuity in the series in October 2025 that is likely to have a particular impact on the more detailed (3-level) SIC codes.
Publishing interactive Power BI dashboards
The current dissemination of our Official statistics products focuses on commentary, including charts and tables, alongside data tables in excel, ODS and CSV formats. We intend to add interactive Power BI dashboards to some of our products.
The first dashboard will summarise our latest Individual insolvencies by location, age and gender 2025 official statistics publication. This will allow a more interactive view for users compared to the detailed data tables. However, the data tables will be retained to meet user needs relating to accessibility and machine readability. We expect this dashboard to be published in the first half of 2026/27.
Timeliness of Company Insolvency by industry information
In our monthly Company Insolvency Statistics, company insolvencies split by industry (SIC code) are currently published with a one-month lag. This is due to the time it takes for industry information to be captured on Insolvency Service systems following a company entering compulsory liquidation.
However, processes have changed over time and we will review whether this remains necessary. We will determine the proportion of data that is missing for the latest month at the time of data extraction and assess whether the benefit of providing timely data outweighs limitations in the accuracy of the data resulting from the missing information. We will communicate the results of this investigation and make any changes that may result from this no later than the June 2026 publication.
Working with Companies House to understand and address differences in our statistics publications
There are currently differences between Insolvency Service statistics and Companies House published statistics for company insolvency measures, particularly compulsory liquidations and receiverships.
During 2026/27, we will work with Companies House colleagues to understand these differences and look to align methodologies or in cases where that is not appropriate, explain the reasons to users.
IVA Outcomes by case firm
During 2026/27, we will look into whether we can include information on individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) termination rates by provider in the quarterly tables that are a supplement to the Individual insolvency statistics, as well as the annual IVA outcomes and providers publication.
However, this measure is difficult to calculate accurately, for example due to transfers of IVAs between insolvency practitioner firms. In addition, we are working with Recognised Professional Bodies to ensure the accuracy of administrative data held by the Insolvency Service relating to IVAs. Once these two issues are resolved, we will work with stakeholders to develop these statistics.
