In February 2025, it was announced that government was setting up an independent review to consider how greenhouse gas removals (GGRs) could assist the UK in meeting our net zero targets out to 2050.
On 23 October 2025 the GGR independent review was published, setting out a range of recommendations to government. This policy statement provides an update on the work government is taking forward in response to the GGR Review and reflects on the progress the UK has made to date on GGRs.
