HS2 Phase One environmental statement volume 5: landscape and visual assessment

These documents have been published as part of the HS2 Phase One environmental statement for the route between London and the West Midlands The environmental statement was produced to accompany the HS2 Phase One hybrid Bill.

This appendix presents the baseline conditions for all landscape character areas and visual assessment viewpoints located along the HS2 Phase One line of route. It also summarises the assessment of significance for all landscape character areas and representative viewpoints during construction and operation of Phase One of HS2.

The map books show landscape character areas, zones of theoretical visibility and the viewpoint locations within each community forum area (CFA).

These reports are specific to individual CFAs. A map depicting each CFA along the route is available in the Introduction to the environmental statement.

Map books

The map books contain series of maps that shows the:

  • landscape character areas that have been considered for assessment and illustrate significant residual effects during construction and operation
  • construction phase zone of theoretical visibility and the viewpoint locations from which the visual assessment of Phase One of HS2 has been undertaken
  • operational phase year 1 and year 15 zone of theoretical visibility and the viewpoint locations from which the visual assessment of Phase One of HS2 has been undertaken
