Details

The government has reviewed the Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS), which provided the policy framework for the government’s approach to secure additional airport capacity in south-east England.

The ANPS, designated in 2018, set out requirements for the relocation and reprovisioning of the immigration removal centres located north-west of Heathrow Airport.

As part of the ANPS review, the government has updated these requirements and published them in the revised ANPS, the draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement (HENPS).

The government views direct engagement between potential promoters of Heathrow expansion and the Home Office on immigration removal centres as critically important. Therefore, the government has published a letter to potential promoters to support this engagement.

It is important to make clear that this does not form part of the formal development consent application process.
