Freedom of Information request on deaths following COVID-19 vaccination (FOI 21/734)

FOI 21/734

Dear

Thank you for your email dated 28th June 2021, where you asked for the following information:

“Can you possibly tell me how many recorded deaths have there been in the UK where the covid-19 vaccine was either the main cause or the contributory factor in the cause? Seemingly this is not available on the government national statistics website.

Could you also indicate what percentage of vaccine recipients have reported adverse side effects from the vaccine as this also is seemingly not available from the o.n.s. site.

Could you also indicate how many people have died from covid-19 since receiving both vaccines as this information is also missing.”

Unfortunately, we do not hold information regarding total number of deaths following the COVID-19 vaccines as we do not collect complete fatality data. We also do not hold information relating to deaths following COVID-19. The Office of National Statistics may be able to help with this part of your request.

Reports received through our Yellow Card scheme include some fatality reports and these can be viewed by following the link below:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-adverse-reactions

The link provided also includes information regarding the total number of adverse drug reaction reports received from vaccine recipients.

I hope the information provided is helpful, but if you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of this response; and can be addressed to this email address.

Yours sincerely,

FOI Team
