Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO): Retention Schedule

The FCO Retention Schedule contains details of how long the FCO retains information and when records are disposed.

It is a legal obligation to comply with the Public Records Acts and other key legislation. The FCO Retention Schedule lists the different types of records we produce and the minimum length of time we keep them for.

We use it to ensure that our records are kept for as long as we need them. Records of historic interest are retained for the public record and eventually transferred to the National Archives.
