Details

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the European Commission have formally agreed and adopted the European Social Fund Operational Programme.

The European Social Fund Operational Programme is the main document for setting out the strategy and priorities for use of the fund to support the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. It also contains high level information on how the fund will be delivered, managed and evaluated.

European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) include money from:

  • the European Social Fund (ESF)
  • European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
  • part of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD)

The funds are from the European Union for projects that create jobs and economic growth.

The ESF programme continues to invest in projects after the transition period ended on 31 December 2020. All funding must finish by the end of 2023.

  1. Revised version of the European Social Fund England Operational Programme 2014 to 2020. A sub-section on Priority Axis 5 - Promoting the Socio-economic Integration of Third Country Nationals – Flexible Assistance for Territories - Cohesion’s Action for Refugees in Europe (FAST-CARE) has been added along with an additional set of data tables for this Priority Axis. In addition, other financial tables have been updated.

  2. The European Social Fund England Operational Programme 2014-2020 has been updated. The revisions are: 1. updated unit costs to reflect current economic conditions. 2. revised the way results targets are monitored to make them more transparent (changing from percentage to volume targets in many cases). 3. moving funds between Categories of Region from relatively low demand areas to higher demand areas to ensure demand is balanced across the programme and reduce the risk of both over and underspends. These revisions are reflected in tables 4 & 5 of each Investment Priority and the financial tables 6 to 28.

  3. Revised version of the ESF Operational Programme 2014 to 2020. The revised version is dated May 2020.

  4. Published a revised operational programme for the European Social Fund 2014 to 2020, the new version is dated October 2018.
