Details

The cost of each passenger over 2010 to 2011 was £3.25; this decreased by 11% in 2011 to 2012 when the cost fell to £2.90. In 2012 to 2013, the cost for each passenger was £2.85.

In 2012 to 2013 there was an improvement in the methodology for allocating staff time between passengers and detection activity, using newly available data on actual time spent rather than planned. This means a year-on-year direct comparison is not appropriate.

These numbers may differ from figures released as National Statistics in the Home Office Immigration Statistics, as they are drawn from different snapshots of the UK Border Agency databases.
