The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has responded to BIST’s consultation: Swifter and simpler competition redress, regulatory appeals and competition enforcement.
The CMA’s response is overall supportive of the reforms that have been proposed that are relevant to the CMA.
The proposals will help to deliver more effective, proportionate and predictable enforcement. As such, they align closely with the CMA’s ongoing programme of work to transform 4 important aspects of how we work – pace, predictability, proportionality and process – and will help to ensure that that the competition regime operates in a way that is efficient, effective and supportive of growth.
The response sets out the CMA’s views on:
- proposals for the CMA to be given powers to direct redress schemes
- enhanced civil-damages protection for Type A immunity applicants
- simplifying and harmonising regulatory appeals across sectors
- making Competition Act 1998 enforcement more efficient
