This joint statement sets out the CMA and Ofcom’s shared views on the interactions between competition and online safety. The statement covers:

  • why safety and competition concerns arise online and why these issues can sometimes interact in digital markets
  • how competition and online safety interventions may interact and the implications for how we approach policy design
  • how the CMA and Ofcom will take account of these interactions as we continue to collaborate and deliver coherent regulation in digital markets

The CMA and Ofcom will continue to engage proactively on these important issues, including through the work of the Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum (DRCF).
