Details

This publication presents descriptive statistics on a cohort of children in Wales affected by household imprisonment. Using data accessed through the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank, the analysis linked prison records with 2011 Census Wales to identify children aged 10 to 14 living in households where an adult was linked to imprisonment between 2011 and 2014.

Findings are primarily based on 2011 Census Wales data and describe the demographic characteristics and household circumstances of these children. The publication also uses linked education and social care data to examine selected indicators of service contact or need. Findings are compared with those for children of the same age in Wales who were not identified through the household imprisonment linkage during the study period.

This work represents an application of the Better Outcomes through Linked Data (BOLD) Partnerships programme, using linked Welsh population and prison records to improve understanding of children affected by household imprisonment.
