Details

Analysis of data from voluntary reports of candida species causing bacteraemia (including trend data; age, sex and geographical distribution; and antimicrobial susceptibility) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Several taxonomic revisions to species previously classified as Candida spp. have been implemented in recent years. With effect from the annual report for 2022, the focus of these Health Protection Reports has therefore shifted from candidemia (as in previous years) to include bloodstream infections due to yeast species, and will continue to evolve while the taxonomy of this group becomes more clearly defined. In the 2022 report, ‘yeast’ refers to those species both currently and formerly defined as Candida species.

Previous years’ reports were published by Public Health England.
