This report was commissioned by MHCLG under a previous administration and is being published for transparency purposes. It represents the views of the authors and not necessarily those of the Department, and nor is it a statement of policy.

In 2014, the government agreed a series of Growth Deals with local authorities across England to fund various locally led projects that addressed issues in the local economy.

One such project was the Mental Health Trailblazers programme, which responded to linked issues of unemployment and poor mental health by offering an intervention that provided support for both.

The programme aimed to support unemployed clients with mental health problems back into work, and was commissioned by 3 areas: Blackpool, the North East and West London.
