Lord Taylor of Holbeach CBE

Biography

Lord Taylor of Holbeach is the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Criminal Information.

Career

Lord Taylor entered the House of Lords in 2006, having been made a Conservative life peer as Baron Taylor of Holbeach, of South Holland in the County of Lincolnshire.

Between 2006 and 2010, he held several opposition spokesperson positions. From the 2010 election to 2011, he was Government Spokesperson for the Cabinet Office, DECC and DWP. He then served as Parliamentary Under Secretary for Resource Management, the Local Environment and Environmental Science in Defra from 2011 to 2012.

He was created a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1992 for political service and served as Chairman of the National Conservative Convention from 2000 to 2003.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Criminal Information

Responsibilities include all Home Office business in the Lords, including the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Bill and the Immigration Bill.

The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State is also responsible for policy on criminal information, including:

  • use of DNA and reform of DNA database
  • CCTV and ANPR
  • Disclosure and Barring Service
  • Security Industry Authority
  • criminal records and criminal information systems
  • criminality information
  • safeguarding vulnerable people
  • Home Office science
  • identity
  • powers of entry

  • freedom of information
  • local government and communities
  • sustainability and environmental issues
  • better regulation

  • transparency
