Christine Gilbert, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector, resigns

Michael Gove has accepted the resignation of Christine Gilbert, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector. She will leave Ofsted on 30 June 2011.

Christine Gilbert announced her intention to resign from her post earlier this year.

The Education Secretary thanked the Chief Inspector for her years of dedicated service and praised her commitment to raising standards in education and improving outcomes of children and young people.

Miriam Rosen, a former executive director at Ofsted, will be the interim Chief Inspector until a permanent appointment is made. The position was advertised from 20 March 2011 and will follow the public appointments process.
