'Community Life' survey commissioned

A 'Community Life' survey for 2012 to 2013 will track trends and developments around encouraging social action and empowering communities.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Today we are announcing that the Cabinet Office is commissioning a new survey for 2012 to 2013 - ‘Community Life’ - which will track the latest trends and developments across areas key to encouraging social action and empowering communities. This will include volunteering, charitable giving, local action and networks and well-being, to provide cost-effective data of value to government, external stakeholders and citizens.

The contract for this work is currently being commissioned through a research framework agreement, and will be published shortly on Contracts Finder. The contract is likely to be in place in early July and the contractor will be announced in due course.

The government is tracking trends in issues key to understanding community life so we have the information needed to inform policy and understand and communicate progress on these matters.   This new survey is focused specifically on social action, community engagement and well-being, and will build on key aspects of previous and relevant surveys to ensure that trends in such issues can be tracked over time. It will provide cost-effective data of value to government, external stakeholders and citizens.
