The Met Office has forecast of temperatures in the North West, North East and Yorkshire & Humber regions, falling to low levels over the next few days. Such conditions could increase the health risks for vulnerable patients and disrupt delivery of services.  Under the Cold Weather Plan this is regarded as a level 2 alert.  The Met Office website provides further information on the situation.

Low temperatures can especially be dangerous for the young and the elderly or those with chronic disease.  Advice on reducing risks either for yourself, or somebody you know, is available from the NHS Choices website.

Information for health care professionals and, managers and staff of residential and nursing homes, in the event of severe cold weather is available from the Department of Health’s website.
