CMA to consult on bowling undertaking

The CMA is consulting on a proposed undertaking in lieu of a reference for The Original Bowling Company’s acquisition of Bowlplex.

Bowling and pins

In September, the CMA announced it would consider in detail an undertaking proposed by The Original Bowling Company instead of referring the case for an in-depth merger investigation.

The Original Bowling Company has offered to sell 6 bowling alleys to a suitable upfront buyer able to remedy the competition concerns identified by the CMA. The Original Bowling Company has proposed Essenden Limited, owner of Tenpin Limited as a potential purchaser of these businesses.

The CMA proposes to accept the proposed undertaking, which it currently considers is appropriate to remedy its competition concerns.

Before reaching a final decision, it is inviting interested parties to make their views known. The deadline for responses is 22 October 2015.

The consultation on the undertaking and all other information relating to this investigation can be found on the case page.
