Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs recruiting new chair

The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) is recruiting a new chairperson to advise the government on issues relating to drug misuse.

The ACMD has a statutory duty to keep drug misuse in the United Kingdom under review and give expert advice on how to prevent it.

Over the last 12 months, it has published high-profile reports on the use of alkyl nitrites (poppers), as well as providing advice on definitions for the Psychoactive Substances Act.

As part of the 3 year appointment, the chair will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the council and overseeing the development of independent and expert advice to government.

Candidates will need scientific authority and knowledge and be able work confidently with ministers, senior government officials, the scientific community, public health practitioners and law enforcement.

This appointment will be for a period of 3 years.
