Detail of outcome

As a result of the consultation, when parliamentary time allows, we will take powers in primary legislation to allow the creation of a comprehensive regulatory framework that supports industry in its continued development and operation of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) in the UK.

We will also:

  • continue to work with stakeholders to identify and implement the most appropriate interim measures until the domestic legislative framework is in place
  • influence negotiations of an international framework at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), so that these align with UK priorities as closely as possible
