This call for evidence has closed

Detail of outcome

We launched a follow on consultation to this call for evidence in March 2023 - Decarbonisation readiness: updates to the 2009 Carbon Capture Readiness requirements.

The later consultation sets out formal proposals for decarbonisation readiness (DR), alongside a summary of responses to this call for evidence.

The proposals outlined in the new consultation apply to England only. The Welsh Government will issue a separate response and outline of next steps in Wales.

We received 34 responses to this call for evidence, from a range of stakeholders. The feedback was generally positive.

Call for evidence description

In the 2020 Energy white paper, government committed to consult on an expansion to the 2009 Carbon Capture Readiness requirements.

This call for evidence represents the first stage of that consultation process. We are seeking initial views and evidence on the expansion of the requirements, including the removal of the 300MW threshold and the inclusion of low-carbon hydrogen as an additional decarbonisation technology.

See the BEIS consultation privacy notice.

Please do not send responses by post to the department at the moment as we may not be able to access them.
