The Prevent Duty in higher education (HE): training and guidance for practitioners

Training materials and guidance on the Prevent Duty for those working in higher education (HE).

Training materials and guidance for:

  • those with a responsibility for ensuring compliance with the Prevent Duty in higher education (HE)
  • staff of HE institutions
  • any other members of HE institutions

From 1 April 2023, ‘The Prevent Duty in higher education: an introduction’ e-learning module will no longer be available as an online SCORM file. The ‘online’ SCORM files will be removed.

The training materials and ‘offline’ SCORM files and guidance will remain available.

Prevent Duty training materials for HE practitioners

Train staff in your institution to understand their role under the Prevent Duty in higher education. This is not a single course on Prevent and should be used selectively dependent on the audience and learning outcome.

You can adapt the training as required and it should work together with your institution’s current policies and support networks.

The introduction to Prevent Duty in higher education (HE) module is available as an e-learning module until 31 March 2023.

If your institution wants to embed the e-learning module into their own learning management system (LMS), find out how to add the module to your LMS.

For providers that do not use SCORM files, Home Office e-learning modules on the Prevent duty and higher education are available..

Training materials to use with higher-level apprentices

Since 1 April 2021 higher-level apprenticeships (levels 6 and 7) have been subject to inspection by Ofsted in accordance with the standards set out in the education inspection framework.

We have worked with Nottingham Trent University to produce a series of videos to help higher-level apprentices (levels 6 and 7) understand Prevent and its role in safeguarding young people from radicalisation.
