Smart Meters Bill

The measures in the Bill will:

  • extend by 5 years to 1 November 2023 the powers the Secretary of State has to develop, amend and oversee regulations relating to smart metering
  • introduce a Special Administration Regime for the Data and Communications Company to ensure that smart metering services continue to be provided in the unlikely event of its insolvency
  • allow Ofgem to deliver market-wide half hourly settlement more swiftly and smoothly than under existing processes
