Near to real-time suspected suicide surveillance for England
Official statistics on near to real-time suspected suicide surveillance (nRTSSS) for England.
The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) publishes as up to date as possible data on suspected suicide to inform suicide prevention planning
The nRTSSS report moved from a monthly to a quarterly publication in January 2025. The data will updated in January, April, July and October each year. This decision was made following recent user research. Further changes to the content and presentation will follow.
Statistics designation
From the July 2025 release (‘data to April 2025’) onwards, the quarterly nRTSSS for England bulletin will be published as ‘official statistics’ (previously ‘official statistics in development’). This is following an ongoing assessment of methodologies and data sources, in combination with taking on board user feedback.
Official statistics are statistics produced by crown bodies, those acting on behalf of crown bodies, or those specified in statutory orders, as defined in the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007.
All official statistics are produced in accordance with the Code of Practice for Statistics and its principles of trustworthiness, quality and value, and regulated by the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR).
The methodology document for this publication gives users more information on how we meet the standards in the code of practice.
