Guide and inspection manuals

The guide sets out how the MOT scheme is run and the inspection manuals explain how MOT tests are carried out.

The class 1 and 2 inspection manual covers motorcycles.

The class 3, 4, 5 and 7 inspection manual covers cars, 3-wheeled vehicles, private passenger vehicles (eg ambulances and motor caravans) and goods vehicles over 3,000kg up to and including 3,500kg.

MOT special notices

Special notices contain changes to the MOT scheme that aren’t yet in the MOT testing guide and inspection manuals.

They’re sent electronically to MOT computer terminals. You must use the terminal to show that you’ve read and understood the notice.
