Statistics at HMRC

HMRC statistics on taxes and benefits administered by HMRC.

We publish around 100 statistics on a regular basis. They provide accurate and impartial information about tax collected by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and benefits and credits administered by HMRC. In 2020, we started publishing statistics on the COVID-19 support schemes.

You can find HMRC’s statistics published before 2012 on The National Archives website.

Forthcoming publications and announcements

Publication dates for HMRC’s statistical outputs are pre-announced on the statistics release calendar. An annual publication plan can also be found on the announcements page.

As part of the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, any changes to the schedule, including unscheduled revisions, will be detailed on the announcements page.

HMRC statistics review 2026

HMRC conducted a review of its official statistics following two errors in our statistical publications in autumn 2025 which affected downstream market-sensitive statistics from other government departments. The report titled HMRC Statistics: raising our performance sets out the findings and recommendations that have come out of this review. Its overarching aim is to strengthen trust, quality and confidence in HMRC’s official statistics by improving the systems and culture that underpin them.

HMRC have agreed with the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) to publicly report on progress and welcome feedback to support our aim of reducing the risk of errors in our official statistics.

In 2020, the OSR conducted a review of HMRC’s official statistics and published a comprehensive report, Strengthening the quality of HMRC official statistics. HMRC has since delivered a programme of improvements in response to the report’s recommendations, strengthening its quality assurance processes, governance and statistical practices. The findings of the 2026 HMRC statistics review demonstrate the progress made since 2020 while also setting out further actions to address lessons learned from the 2025 statistical errors and continue improving the quality of HMRC’s official statistics.
