Open call for evidence

Energy datasets for artificial intelligence applications

Summary

We're calling for evidence on energy-related datasets where enabling access for AI application development could improve decarbonisation, energy security or affordability.

Call for evidence description

This call for evidence relates to energy datasets, where there are access barriers that currently prevent them being used for AI applications, but where such application could potentially improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the energy system.

The questions are aimed primarily at AI developers who have an interest in working with energy datasets. However, responses are also welcomed from the owners of datasets, and from anyone with a wider interest in energy, decarbonisation, AI, digitalisation and/or data.

This is an evidence-gathering exercise, with no commitment to change policy at this stage.

We fully understand that some data cannot be shared, or could only be shared with customer permission. The call includes cases that use a viable alternative route, such as generating synthetic data rather than using real data.
