Get access to your eVisa

Overview

An eVisa is an online record of:

  • your immigration status
  • the conditions of the type of permission you have to enter or stay in the UK

If you have access to an eVisa, you can prove your immigration status online instead of using a physical immigration document like a biometric residence permit (BRP).

For example, you can use an eVisa to prove your immigration status to a landlord or employer.

Using an eVisa does not affect your immigration status or the conditions for you to enter or stay in the UK.

You can continue to use your physical immigration document until it expires.

Who can set up access to an eVisa

You can set up access to your eVisa now if you have a:

  • BRP
  • Frontier Worker permit

Check if you can access an eVisa if you have another physical immigration document.

How to access your eVisa

If you do not already have a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, you will be asked to:

  • create a UKVI account
  • confirm your identity using the ‘UK Immigration ID Check’ app

This information will be used to link your eVisa to your UKVI account. You’ll get an email when you can access your eVisa in your account.

Before you start

You will need:

  • access to a smartphone

  • a mobile phone number

  • an email address

  • your BRP card or a valid passport with your BRP number or visa application number

Your visa application number is the global web form (GWF) or unique application number (UAN) from your visa application.

You must give a phone number and email address you can use again. You’ll need them each time you use your eVisa to prove your immigration status online.

Start now

If you do not use your passport to get access to your eVisa, you’ll need to update your UKVI account with your passport details before you can use your eVisa to travel to the UK.

Helping someone else

You can help someone else to create their UKVI account, for example, your child or someone who cannot use the internet.

You can manage their account for them if you’re acting on their behalf, for example if you have power of attorney.
