How to change

1. Consent to be designated

An individual who has been nominated to be a designated premises supervisor (DPS) may use this form to give their consent to being a DPS. You must either hold a valid personal licence, or have applied for a licence, if you are to become a DPS. If you do not hold a personal licence, the premises must not sell any alcohol until you hold a valid personal licence. This form must be used in conjunction with the separate application form. Completing this form by itself is not sufficient to vary a licence.

2. Interim authority notice

Where a premises licence has lapsed due to the death, incapacity or insolvency of the holder, an interim authority notice can restore the licence and allow the premises to continue trading while a new owner is found. Interim authority notices must be given no later than 28 days after the licence to lapses, and last for up to 3 months. If a transfer application has not been granted within the 3 month period, the licence will lapse again.

3. Application to transfer premises licence

If you take over a premises with an existing licence, you must apply to transfer that licence into your name (either to you as an individual applicant, a partnership, or company).

4. Application to vary a premises licence to specify an individual as designated premises supervisor

This service can be used to specify an individual as the designated premises supervisor on a premises licence. All licences allowing the sale of alcohol are required to have a nominated individual, who must also hold a personal licence, with the exception of certain community premises who have been granted an exemption.

5. Application for a minor variation to a premises or club certificate

This service can be used to apply for a minor variation to a premises licence or club premises certificate. Changes available under this type of application include changes to conditions and the layout of premises, which will not have an adverse effect on the licensing objectives. If your application is not suitable for a minor variation, you will need to apply for a full variation to your licence or certificate.

6. Application to vary a premises licence

If you already hold a licence for a premises and wish to vary that licence, for example to add in extra activities, change your licensed area, or increase your hours, you will need to apply to vary your licence. This service can not be used to vary a designated premises supervisor or transfer a licence (these are done by separate applications), or to extend the length of a time limited licence.

7. Notification of an interest in premises under section 178

Any person, partnership, or organisation, with a legal or financial interest in a premises, such as a freeholder, leaseholder, mortgagee or occupier, may give the licensing authority notice of their interest. They will then be notified of any licence applications or events affecting that premises in the following 12-month period. At the end of this period, the registered interest will lapse unless it is renewed for another 12 months. There is no obligation to register an interest.

8. Notification of change of name or address

If the name or address of a licensed premises change, or the name or address of a premises licence holder, or the name or address of a designated premises supervisor, the licence holder must notify the licensing authority.

9. Consent to transfer

This service can be used an existing licence holder to confirm that they give consent to their licence being transferred to another party. This form must be submitted in conjunction with the separate transfer application form. Submitting this consent on its own is not sufficient to transfer a licence.

10. Request to be removed as designated premises supervisor

If you are named as the designated premises supervisor (DPS) on a premises licence, but you no longer want to be the DPS for that premises, you may apply to remove yourself from that licence. Doing so will mean that you will no longer be responsible for alcohol sales at that premises, and the premises will not be able to sell any alcohol until they name a new DPS.
