Details

Since the ESIF and Strategic Economic Plan were developed in 2013, there has been a period of sustained national economic growth, with Leicester and Leicestershire experiencing a growing number of jobs and increasing Gross Value Added (GVA). However, there are major skills shortages within the workforce, particularly in some of the growth sectors and a market failure in graduate recruitment and retention in the local area.

Through this call the ESF Managing Authority is seeking projects which will support activity to improve the opportunities to provide placements, work experience and higher level apprenticeships within SMEs in Leicester and Leicestershire.

Graduate retention within the local economy is a particular market failure in the East Midlands and Leicester and Leicestershire in particular, despite being home to three high quality Universities. Through this call the LLEP area aims to engage more businesses into the local skills system to encourage more graduates to stay in the region for employment.
