Details
Employment for people with learning disabilities remains a challenge within WELEP with our combined authorities reporting low employment rates in 2016-17 for the 2585 people reported to be in receipt of short or long term support (SALT measures). Although some progression has been made in terms of education/ skills pathway, including supported internships, our experience is consistent with the wider evidence base, in that with only 6.7% in some sort of work, for many adults with learning disabilities, local intensive specialist and targeted support is needed to support people identify, achieve and maintain a job.
Similarly, very few people have been supported to explore self-employment or start their own business. Although the term learning disability encompasses a wider range of people and a variety of support needs, the personalised nature of intended support will ensure efficient and effective use of resources to increase the employment rate

Completion date
The project must be completed no later than 3 years and 6 months after the proposed start date.
