Driving in Great Britain on a non-GB licence

You cannot drive a lorry, minibus or bus in Great Britain (GB) on your driving licence

You cannot exchange your existing lorry, minibus and bus licence. You need to get a Great Britain issued licence to drive a lorry, bus or minibus.

You can use your licence to drive cars and motorcycles for 12 months after becoming resident in Great Britain, as long as it remains valid. It must show you are allowed to drive those vehicles.

If you have a car or motorcycle licence

You can exchange your car or motorcycle licence for a GB one. You have 5 years since you became resident to do this.

If you have a Ukrainian driving licence

You can use your car driving licence in Great Britain for at least 3 years after becoming resident if you came to the UK on a Ukraine visa scheme.

You can also use it if you came to the UK on a Ukraine visa scheme and then switched to a different type of visa.

How long you can use it after that depends on when you successfully applied for entry clearance or permission to stay in the UK. You may be able to continue to use it for a further 1 year and 6 months.
