Cost, size and weight

The cost of using British Forces Post Office (BFPO) depends on the size and weight of the letter or parcel you’re sending.

You might be able to send mail for free using the enduring families free mail service.

If you’re posting your parcel at a post office, it must weigh less than 20kg.

BFPO cannot deliver post by a certain time or date.

Standard letter

Length: up to 240mm

If you’re sending a parcel that’s a tube shape, double the diameter and add this to the length. The total cannot be more than 1,040mm. The biggest dimension cannot be more than 900mm.

Worldwide parcels

You can send parcels to a BFPO address outside of the UK at a Post Office using Royal Mail.

Parcels can be up to 20kg.

Cost depends on the size of the parcel.

You must make a customs declaration if you’re sending a parcel with BFPO.

You cannot use ParcelForce to send parcels with BFPO unless you have a business account with them. If you have an account, you can send parcels up to 30kg.

Insuring your post in case of loss or damage

You should always:

  • ask for proof of posting at the Post Office
  • keep proof of how much your item is worth

If your post is lost or damaged you may be able to claim standard compensation up to £20.
