Provisional licence applications with an ‘FP’ reference number

If you’ve already made an online provisional driving licence application you can use this service to:

  • check the progress of your application
  • upload a new signature
  • change your contact details

Track and manage your application

You’ll need to provide:

  • your application reference number - this was emailed to you after you applied, and will start with ‘FP’ followed by 10 letters (for example, FPAB-ABCD-ABCD)
  • addresses where you’ve lived over the last 3 years
  • your National Insurance number
  • your UK passport number

Start now

You’ll normally get your licence one week after you applied online. It may take longer if DVLA needs to make additional checks.

If your reference number does not start with ‘FP’

You’ll need to use different services to track:

    You can start driving as soon as you pass your driving test.

    You must have an insurance policy that allows you to drive without supervision.
