Report a smell from a waste facility, industrial site or farm in England
Use this service to report unpleasant smells from waste facilities, industrial sites and farms.
This includes smells from:
- rubbish tips
- recycling centres
- large industrial sites, factories or businesses (such as food processing plants)
- farming activity, such as poultry or pig farming
There’s a different way to report a smell in Scotland, report a smell in Wales, or report a smell in Northern Ireland.
Report other types of smells
You cannot use this service to report smells from:
- neighbours
- domestic rubbish
- small or local businesses, such as restaurants
You’ll need to contact your local council and ask for their environmental health department.

You’ll need to know:
- where the smell is coming from
- where you noticed it
- when you noticed it
You only need to give your personal details if you’re happy to be contacted for more information.
If you want to send photos, you’ll need to provide your email address.
