The Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC) provides the government with external, independent scrutiny of the evidence supporting changes in law that affect businesses, charities and community groups. The RPC is an independent body, sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills. The committee is formed of eight independent experts from a range of backgrounds, including business, the voluntary sector and academia.
Terms of Reference
In 2012, the RPC became an independent advisory Non‐Departmental Public Body (NDPB). The terms of reference for the operation of the RPC can be found here, setting out how the RPC will contribute to a cultural change in the Government’s approach to regulation, and support better and smarter regulation, through improving the use of evidence and analysis in regulatory policy-making.
