Bank accounts

You must check the description field of this guide and make sure that the customer’s bank account number and sort code have been provided in the correct format.

If the correct format has been provided, enter the details on to the system following the guidance given in the Input Details Field. All Bank Account details should be entered on to the system in the format of an eight-digit account number and a six-digit sort code.

If the customer has provided bank account details that do not match the description you must contact the customer and ask them to obtain the correct account and sort code details from their bank.

  • If you are able to obtain the correct information, enter the revised details onto the tax credits computer, following the guidance given in the Input Details Field.
  • If you are not able to obtain the correct details, contact the Bank Liaison Team for further guidance.

Note: On entering details, an alternative bank name may display. You must refer to guidance regarding Sponsor Bank accounts before proceeding.

Building Society accounts

These may be supplied in the format of a roll number or reference number.

You must check the description field of this guide and make sure that the customer’s roll number or reference number has been provided in the correct format.

If the correct format has been provided, enter the details on the system following the guidance given in the Input Details Field.

If the customer has provided a roll number or reference number that does not match the description you must contact the customer and ask them to obtain the correct reference number and details of the sort code and account number for their building society, in order that payments can be made.

  • If you are able to obtain the correct information, enter the revised details onto the tax credits computer, following the guidance given in the Input Details Field.
  • If you are not able to obtain the correct details, contact the Bank Liaison Team for further guidance.

Note: On entering details an alternative building society name may display. You must refer to guidance regarding Sponsor Bank accounts before proceeding.

Sponsor Bank accounts

Note: In some instances (mainly building society accounts), transactions may be processed using a Sponsor Bank account.

Where appropriate, details of Sponsor Banks and their account and sort code details are shown within the Name Field. These are acceptable for our purposes.

On entering account and sort code details, the Sponsor Bank may display.

  • If details match an entry as listed in this guide, process the claim, do not amend details unless instructed to do so.
  • If details do not match the entry as listed in this guide, you must contact the customer and establish that they have supplied the correct sort code and account number
  • If you are able to obtain the correct information, enter the revised details onto the tax credits computer following the guidance given in the Input Details Field.
  • If you are given the same details, contact the Bank Liaison Team for further guidance.

Contacting Bank Liaison Team

You can phone the Bank Liaison Team from Monday to Friday between 08:30 and 16:00.

Outside of these hours, you must email the Bank Liaison Team (This content has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000) TCO, BLS (B&C TCO). The email must include

  • your name
  • your full address location
  • your phone number
  • a return email or fax number.

RDC Error message 6021

RDC error message 6021 displays where the bank name and address details have been populated but the branch field is blank.

Since the branch details are not mandatory, you must delete the RDC error from the Application Notes field and proceed with capturing the claim.
