Checklist

Before you follow this guidance make sure

  • you have the correct user roles to follow this guidance. Use the B&C Roles and Access Catalogue. You can find this by going to the Benefits & Credits homepage, selecting ‘R’ on the B&C A-Z index, selecting ‘Roles and Access Process’, selecting ‘Roles & Access Catalogue’ from the Related links menu
  • you are in the correct MU. Use TCM0322460 for the correct MU number
  • you have access to ‘Access To DWP Data’ (ADD) System

Guidance

Note: When sending customer, staff or process data to another individual or team, make sure you follow the latest data security guidelines or contact the Data Guardian or Data Security Team for advice.

Step 1

Access ‘ADD’ from the HMRC intranet. For how to do this use TCM1000014

Note: You must ensure that the personal details you are viewing relate to the person that is held on the tax credits computer. If the person held on ‘ADD’ is not the same person that is held on the tax credits computer under that NINO, you must complete an M1 referral form (Word 101KB).

Step 2

Check the ‘Award Details’ section of the ‘ADD Award Summary’ screen. This will show the type of JSA the customer is in receipt of

If the customer is in receipt of JSA(C)

Note: JSA(C) is a taxable benefit that is taken in as income for tax credit purposes and must not be included as a benefit.

  • take no further action

If the customer is in receipt of JSA (IB), go to Step 3.

If the customer JSA is unclear

  • contact the appropriate DWP local office for clarification. For how to do this, use TCM1000097
  • take action as advised.

Step 3

Confirm the start and end dates of entitlement. For how to do this, use ‘ADDM230’ of TCM1000014

  • make a note of the ‘Claim Date’
  • check if an ‘End Date’ is displayed

If there is no end date, the award is still in payment, return tothe guidance you were previously following.

If the information for start and end dates is not clear on this screen

  • contact the appropriate DWP local office for clarification. For how to do this, use TCM1000097
  • take action as advised.
