IHTM05128 - Grants on credit: protecting the charge to tax and post-grant compliance

As the Personal Representative (PR) will generally have absolute control over the estate assets once the grant has been issued we must protect any risks to the Exchequer. Our priority is to secure the payment of all the tax and interest that was postponed, at the earliest practicable date.

If a grant on credit is authorised you will need to:

  • take all appropriate protective action (IHTM05129)
  • have a clear agreement with the taxpayer or agent about how the debt will be discharged after the grant has issued (IHTM05130).
