Statistics on International Development (SID) focuses on the key international measure of official aid spend, known as Official Development Assistance (ODA). SID is published bi-annually, and provisional aid spend is published in the spring and final aid spend in the autumn.

The provisional SID publication is based on summary data with limited sector and geography breakdown. The final SID publication is based on finalised data and provides detailed breakdowns including a project-level dataset. Find all SID publications on the collection page.

The SID series are designated as National Statistics publications.

These statistical releases cover data from 2017 onwards, with the most current data included in the most recent one.  You can also view the Statistics on International Development underlying data for 2009 to 2016.

The release timetable

FCDO makes every effort to release its National Statistics as soon as possible and in an orderly manner in line with the Code of Practice for Statistics. We publish official statistics on provisional and final UK aid spending normally in spring and autumn in Statistics on International Development.

The timing of these releases is largely determined by: the timetable for reporting UK ODA figures to the OECD; when the Office for National Statistics publish the latest GNI estimates; and the timing for processing and quality assuring the spending data from FCDO, Other Government Departments and other ODA contributors.

Data, methods and quality

In 2019 the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR), the regulatory arm of the UK Statistics Authority, completed a short review of Statistics on International Development (SID) compliance against the Code of Practice for official statistics. This confirmed that SID continues to be designated as National Statistics. OSR’s full findings, published on 18 September 2019, can be found on the UKSA website.

FCDO is keen to engage with users of our National Statistics on an ongoing basis to explore issues of interest to specialist users and gain valuable feedback used to improve our National Statistics publications. We engage through public consultations on the statistics, feedback surveys and we also have a statistics user group for receiving your ideas, feedback and comments. You can contribute to the user group on Stats User Net.
