South east public health laboratory: services

Public health laboratory Southampton, based in Southampton General Hospital, is the public health laboratory for the south east region.

The laboratory provides clinical microbiological testing services to local health trusts, the NHS and general practitioners. Southampton laboratory is part of the Clostridium difficile Ribotyping Network (CDRN). It provides clinical testing and diagnostic services to the region to assist the investigation, prevention and control of communicable disease and infection.

Staff in the laboratory support the work of general practitioners as well as healthcare organisations, such as hospitals and primary care trusts, in their areas.
