Ministry of Defence

The Policy and Capability Enterprise Support Programme brings together science and technology activities and provides robust evidence to support senior decision makers with the most important and challenging defence and security issues.

Areas of work

The programme’s work covers three primary areas:

  • Enabling evidence-based and auditable senior decision making within the Ministry of Defence to help improve the cost effectiveness of, and reduce the risks associated with, policy and planning choices. This includes significant policy and planning activities such as the Annual Budgeting Cycle, Comprehensive Spending Reviews and Defence Reviews.
  • Analysis to support the transformation of defence logistics, specifically in developing defence-wide logistics policy and strategy, and optimising the support network in the areas of delivery, supply, engineering support and infrastructure.
  • Providing high-quality technical, scientific and analytical advice and support to inform the planning and conduct of defence and security operations at home and overseas.
Operations support

The programme will ensure that the advice is generated and reported in a consistent and coherent manner, and that evidence is generated once and used many times to reduce duplication of effort. The programme also maintains the capability to respond to unplanned, unpredictable requests for advice in support of the planning and actual conduct of operations.
