Pet travel: authorise someone to travel to the EU with your pet

Complete a declaration to give someone permission to travel to the EU with your pet.

Applies to England, Scotland and Wales

Complete a declaration to authorise someone to travel to the EU with your pet.

Only the owner can complete and sign the declaration.

The person travelling with your pet must carry the declaration with them.

Declarations in different languages

You must use a version of the declaration that includes an official language of the EU country you are travelling to.

For example, if you are travelling to France, the declaration must be in French and English.

If you’re travelling to Ireland, use the English-only version.

If the language you need is not available on this page, contact the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) to request another language.

Guidance on completing the declaration

Complete the declaration in block capitals.

Owner

Enter your full name in the first box (under ‘I, the undersigned’) if you are the pet’s owner.

This must match the owner name that appears on the pet’s animal health certificate.

Person you are authorising

Enter the full name of the person you are authorising to travel with your pet in the second box (under ‘declare that the following named person’).

Details of the pet animals

In the first column, enter your pet’s microchip number.

In the second column, enter their animal health certificate number.

Use one row per pet. You can authorise someone to travel with up to 5 of your pets.

Place and date

Enter the date when you are signing the document, and the country and city you are in when you sign.

Date of movement of the owner

Enter the date you are travelling. You must travel to the same destination as your pet within 5 days (either before or after your pet travels).

Example:

You are travelling to France but someone else is transporting your pet. If you travel on 15 May your pet can travel at any time between 10 May and 20 May.

If you will not travel within 5 days of your pet, you cannot use this declaration and you must follow the commercial pet export rules. If you are unsure which rules apply to you, contact the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).

Signature

You should print the declaration and sign your signature with a pen.
