The British Embassy in Pyongyang temporarily closed in May 2020 due to travel restrictions put in place by the DPRK Government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and is currently unable to provide any consular assistance. Overview

The British Embassy in Pyongyang has consular responsibility for all categories of British nationals (including dual nationals) and their non-British dependants as well as Irish and unrepresented Commonwealth nationals. We share responsibility with other EU missions in Pyongyang for unrepresented EU nationals in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The British Embassy in DPRK issues a range of legal documents for British nationals. Please make an appointment for each service.

Notarial services

We offer:

  • certifying copies of official documents issued in the UK
  • administering oaths, affirmations
  • statutory declarations
  • witnessing signatures

These services are available for a fee. We cannot provide refunds of consular fees a for certificates or notarial services that are not accepted by the requesting authority. Fees for consular certificates and documents are paid on the day of the appointment and can be paid in cash (by Euros).

Please note that we cannot certify copies of British birth, marriage or death certificates. To obtain a copy of these certificates, you should apply to the appropriate local Register Office or the relevant General Register Office (GRO) in the UK. Legalisation

Legalisation is the official confirmation that a signature, seal or stamp is genuine. The British Embassy can only legalise seals and signatures of officials of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
