Types of apprenticeships that you can apply for in the insurance sector.

This level 4 higher apprenticeship trains you to work in the insurance sector in a claims, broking or underwriting technician or team leader/supervisor role.

Training opportunities

The role of the technicians is to provide support to all types of insurance work including:

  • underwriting
  • claims or broking
  • reviewing and auditing cases of claims
  • providing advice on technical referrals
  • contributing to technical audits
  • liaising with brokers

The role of the team leaders and supervisors is to guide a team of people resolving queries and problems, providing clear goals and developing your teams’ professional and technical capabilities.

If you complete the higher apprenticeship, you can progress to membership of the Chartered Insurance Institute. You could then complete a professional qualification which offers a fast track route onto chartered studies.

This progression can lead to a specialist role in Insurance. It’s also possible to enter a higher education course in a subject related to insurance, or other financial services.

Higher level apprenticeship

You could train in roles like:

  • claims technician/team leader/supervisor
  • broker technician/team leader/supervisor
  • underwriter technician/team leader/supervisor

Apply for an insurance apprenticeship

You can become an apprentice in England if you’re:

  • 16 or over
  • eligible to work in England
  • not in full-time education
