English indices of deprivation 2019: mapping resources

Mapping resources, interactive tools and Open Data facilities to aid user’s exploration of the English indices of deprivation 2019.

Applies to England

Indices of Deprivation 2019 explorer (postcode mapper)

The Indices of Deprivation 2019 explorer shows the relative deprivation of neighbourhoods for selected areas according to the indices of deprivation 2019 and indices of deprivation 2015 and allows users to search by a place name or postcode.

The explorer includes a dashboard which provides a brief summary of how relatively deprived the area selected is in each iteration. Data can be downloaded directly using this tool.

Indices of Deprivation 2019 local authority dashboard

The Indices of Deprivation 2019 local authority dashboard allows users to explore the range of summary measures across the indices of deprivation 2019 at local authority level and the lower-layer super output areas (LSOAs) within each district.

The maps displayed illustrate the location of the local authority within England, the lower-layer super output area within the selected local authority and which decile each is in for the index of multiple deprivation 2019.

Open Data Communities

Indices of Deprivation 2019 data, and data from previous releases, are available in fully open and linkable data formats via the department’s Open Data Communities platform.

Indices of Deprivation 2019 local authority maps

These local authority maps have been produced by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in collaboration with the University of Sheffield. There is one map for each of England’s 317 local authority areas.

Each map uses the index of multiple deprivation 2019 to illustrate deprivation at lower-layer super output area level within each area. Each map also displays the number of lower-layer super output areas each area has in each decile of deprivation.

Indices of Deprivation 2019 geopackage

A geopackage, shapefiles, mapping templates and further mapping resources is available on the Open Data website.
