Most professional lorry and bus drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep their Driver CPC qualification.

Your Driver CPC card is proof that you’ve done the training. The card is sometimes called a ‘driver qualification card’ or ‘DQC’.

Taking Driver CPC training during the COVID-19 pandemic

As well as classroom-based training, training is available remotely from commercial providers, via online video platforms.

Find Driver CPC training courses.

You can check how many hours of training you’ve done in the current training period.

Driver CPC cards that were due to expire from 1 February to 31 August 2020

Your Driver CPC card was automatically extended by 7 months if it was due to expire from 1 February to 31 August 2020.

The extension gave you an extra 7 months to complete your 35 hours of periodic training.

All the extensions have now expired.

Example If your Driver CPC was originally due to expire on 1 August 2020, it was extended to 1 March 2021.

You must have completed your 35 hours of periodic training by 1 March 2021 to continue driving professionally.

If you missed your extended deadline, you cannot drive professionally until you’ve finished your training.

Find out what to do if you missed your training deadline.

You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving professionally without a current Driver CPC qualification.
